Anyone can take a photo with an animal.
Not everyone creates an experience.
At K n J Photography, our Highland cow and miniature donkey sessions are intentionally different. They are calm, guided, and deeply educational — designed for children to learn, connect, and build confidence around animals, not just stand beside them for a quick picture.
This is slow, meaningful country childhood. And it’s something your child and you as parents will remember long after the photos are printed.
In a world of fast-paced schedules, screens, and staged moments, children crave real connection. Animals offer that in the most natural way.
Our Highland cow and miniature donkey experiences are built around:
Gentle, respectful animal interaction
Age-appropriate education
Confidence-building moments
Calm, unrushed environments
Honest, emotive photography
These sessions aren’t about ticking off a trending photo opportunity. They’re about creating space for curiosity, wonder, and learning — and preserving those moments as timeless memories.
These experiences wouldn’t be possible without Ash and Emma, the passionate farmers behind our beautiful animal locations just outside Fernvale, QLD.
Ash and Emma are deeply committed to ethical farming, animal welfare, and education. Their Highland cows and miniature donkeys are not props — they are loved, respected, and carefully handled animals.
Children don’t just see the animals here. They are taught how to interact safely and respectfully, guided every step of the way.
Highland cows are known for their long coats, sweeping horns, and calm, curious nature — but there’s so much more for children to learn beyond their iconic look.
During our full Highland cow learning experiences, children are guided to:
Understand how to approach a large animal calmly
Learn why Highland cows behave the way they do
Brush their coats and observe textures and colours
Feed them safely under supervision
Recognise body language and animal cues
These moments are powerful. Watching a child gently place their hand on a Highland cow for the first time — nervous, then proud — is something incredibly special.
And while those quiet interactions unfold, I capture the real moments:
Concentration
Gentle hands
Wonder-filled expressions
Beaming, confident smiles
Nothing is rushed. Nothing is forced.
We offer two Highland cow options:
Full Highland Cow Learning Experiences
Ideal for families wanting deeper education, longer interaction time, and a fully immersive experience.
Guided Shorter Highland Cow Experiences
Perfect for younger children or families wanting a shorter, guided introduction while still maintaining education and calm interaction.
Both options are intentionally designed to be child-led, respectful, and stress-free for both children, parents and animals.
Our Miniature Donkey of Burclair experiences are a favourite for younger children and parents — and for good reason.
Miniature donkeys are calm, affectionate, and incredibly intuitive. They move slowly, respond gently, and offer children a safe way to build confidence around animals.
During these guided learning sessions, children:
Learn how to approach donkeys quietly and confidently
Brush, feed, and lead them gently
Understand basic animal care and routines
Develop patience, empathy, and responsibility
For many children, this is their first experience leading an animal — a huge confidence boost that stays with them.
And again, while the learning happens naturally, I photograph the moments that matter:
Small hands holding leads
Laughter and connection
Proud posture and relaxed joy
These are the images families treasure for generations.
Families regularly travel from Brisbane, Ipswich, Toowoomba, and the Sunshine Coast to Fernvale for these sessions — because experiences like this are rare.
Unlike busy petting zoos or rushed photo setups, our sessions are:
Boutique and limited
Calm and uncrowded
Educational rather than performative
Designed around the child’s pace
This is country learning, just over an hour from Brisbane — and worlds away from the everyday rush.
My role goes far beyond photographing animals.
I document:
Real connection
Natural curiosity
Gentle confidence
Honest childhood moments
No forced smiles. No awkward posing.
Just authentic storytelling imagery that reflects who your child is in that moment of their life.
These are heirloom images — the kind that grow more meaningful with time.
These sessions are perfect for families who:
Value education and emotional growth
Want their children connected to nature
Prefer experiences over things
Love authentic, emotive photography
Want memories that feel real, not staged
If you’re looking for more than just a photo — If you want an experience your child will remember — This is for you.
